For a legendary program like the University of North Carolina, they sure are having a tough time finding a coach.

UNC’s top choice, Arizona’s Tommy Lloyd, just announced an extension to stay with the Wildcats’ long term, leaving UNC with another less option as they desperately need a home-run hire.
Sources: UNC offered Tommy Lloyd a top-two contract in CBB. Lloyd took less to stay, but will still bump up to $7.2 million starting next season. Staff pool also will get a huge bump + incentives brought back to their contract structures. He’ll also no longer report to the AD. https://t.co/irS6aGzVz3

After promoting Hubert Davis to head coach following Roy Williams’ retirement, UNC’s safe choice proved wrong, and the experimental hires by programs like Arizona (Lloyd), Michigan (Dusty May), and Illinois (Brad Underwood) catapulted those programs way ahead of the waning Tar Heels’ dominance.
Now, UNC may need to dig a little deeper.
Carolina’s issue is they’re trying to buy a stock after it skyrockets. They could’ve had Lloyd or Maye 5 years ago, now it’s too late. Michigan & Arizona gambled on coaches & they won. UNC likely will have to do the same with a lesser known coach. But they want a home run hire.

With the transfer portal opening on April 7, time is beginning to be a factor in the long-search for a head coach.
One fan has a suggestion.
After Lloyd said no to UNC, IMO I think there’s a guy out there without a job who’s a no brainer for UNC with his resume
Guy with HC experience
Has been to a final 4 and title game
Part of the UNC familyGot to take a look at Hubert Davis

Who will be the next UNC coach? And more importantly, what is UNC doing that no one wants to come take a job at what once was one of the most premier destinations in college basketball?
