Nebraska’s New Football Uniforms Face Backlash

Nebraska football and Adidas officially revealed new primary home and away football uniforms for the 2026 season. The unveiling took place during the “Red Sea Rising” and “Battle of the Boneyard” 7-on-7 events at the Hawks Championship Center. This marks the first major changes to the program’s core uniforms since 2003.

The contrasting stripes, once on the sleeves, are now across the shoulders, reminiscent of 1970s Husker designs. Player numbers have been moved to the sleeves. Since 1989, the left-shoulder patch reading “Nebraska Football/A Winning Tradition” has been removed. Instead, “A Winning Tradition” is embroidered inside the collar.

The classic white helmet, with its red stick “N” on the sides, a central red stripe, and a red facemask, remains unchanged.

Fan and social media reactions have been highly divided. The athletic department sees the redesign as a way to appeal to younger recruits with a modern, sleek look, but many fans have strongly criticized it for obscuring the program’s history.
