A Group of 5 team dismissed one of the members of its coaching staff on Monday.

Coastal Carolina fired offensive coordinator Travis Trickett. The team’s 3-3 start was enough for head coach Tim Beck to feel inclined to make a move. Trickett is the one to go, curiously.

“Coastal Carolina has dismissed OC Travis Trickett,” The Athletic’s Chris Vannini reported on Monday.

Head coach Tim Beck will instead take over duties as OC.

Coastal Carolina’s offense really hasn’t struggled mightily this year. The team ranks in the Top 30 in yards/play, have performed averagely in the passing game, and still remain in the Top 40 in yards/carry. So it’s not as if they’ve fallen off a cliff.

The team had to replace transfer quarterback Grayson McCall, who left CCU for North Carolina State. Passing is where the team has trended down, but having to replace McCall was never going to be easy.

If the Chanticleers don’t turn it around, Trickett’s firing will look even more curious.

The college football world reacted to news of the firing.
