If you thought things at Auburn couldn’t get worse, think again.
BREAKING:
We’ve got a Bruce Pearl crashout at the SEC Tournament
— Mostly Hoops With Mark Titus & Co. (@MostlyHoopsShow) March 13, 2026
Bruce Pearl, who gave his job to his son after leading Auburn to a No. 1 seed AND the Final Four just last season, couldn’t bear to watch another painful Auburn loss.
What quitting on your team weeks before the season and handing the keys to a medical sales rep does to a man. https://t.co/gZDxF4cuTw

Pearl has been one of Auburn’s most vocal supporters for the tournament, and with a loss by Miami (Ohio) in the MAC Tournament, a win for Auburn would mean that much more for their resume. Now, there will be no more late-season stat padding for the Tigers.
Bruce Pearl’s heel turn has been incredible.
Literally took Auburn to the Final Four last year. Best coach in school history.
“Retires” to give his son an undeserved opportunity.
Doesn’t even end up running for senate. Says multiple idiotic things on TV.
Brutal.

Pearl’s antics went viral online to the dismay of many fans.

Auburn looks like it’s going to go from the 2025 Final Four to missing the 2026 NCAA Tournament entirely.
