The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers moved to fire one of the members of its coaching staff on Monday.
Coastal Carolina fired offensive coordinator Travis Trickett. The Chanticleers’ recent run has put them at a disappointing 3-3 season. Someone had to go, it seems, and Trickett was the one let go.
“Coastal Carolina has dismissed OC Travis Trickett,” The Athletic’s Chris Vannini reported on Monday.

Head coach Tim Beck will instead take over duties as OC.
This is a curious firing. Coastal Carolina ranks in the Top 30 in yards/play, are pretty average in the passing game, and are still in the Top 40 in yards/carry. It’s not as if they’ve fallen off a cliff. Last season they performed better in the passing game. They had Grayson McCall last year, who went to NC State this year, but he and Ethan Vasko both saw the field last year.
So in other words, this firing doesn’t seem to really be rooted in performance. Sure, the team might not be where they want to be in terms of passing the football. But in replacing a transfer quarterback, you had to expect lesser performances this year out of the position. If the Chanticleers don’t turn it around, Trickett’s firing will look even more curious.
