James Franklin Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin looks to the scoreboard during the NCAA football game against the Ohio State Buckeyes at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pa. on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. Ohio State won 20-13.

Penn State ate yet another frustrating loss to Ohio State this past weekend. The Buckeyes defeated the Nittany Lions 20-13 in a matchup of two AP Top 5 teams. It was a familiar tune for Penn State fans. THey’ve seen the Nittany Lions go 1 for their last 11 against the Buckeyes, a matchup that frequently shows both’s place in the Big Ten. For better or worse at times. Fox’s Joel Klatt was particularly discouraged by Penn State and their playcalling at the end of the game.

Klatt went on The Joel Klatt Show on Monday and reacted to how flabbergasted he was at Penn State’s playcalling in the final sequences of the game.

“Here, you’ve got first and goal,” Klatt said. He then described what they did, sending Kaytron Allen up on runs on three straight downs.

Then they went with a mere pick play on 4th down. That didn’t inspire Klatt at all.

“That was the play selection for Penn State? What are we doing?” Klatt asked incredulously. “Andy Kotelnicki, we’ve been singing his praises al year for his creativity. And so they’ve got five snaps inside the 5-yard line… one in the first half, four at the end of the game, and Singelton and Warren never touch the ball.

“That cannot happen, ” Klatt emphatically declared. “That cannot happen.”

The Nittany Lions may live to regret those decisions.
