Miami (Ohio) Finishes Perfect Regular Season In Dramatic Fashion

In true March fashion, Miami (Ohio) ended its perfect regular season with a nail-biting, overtime victory against rivals they hadn’t beaten on the road in 14 years.

Despite a 31-0 record, Miami’s tournament hopes are still not guaranteed if the RedHawks don’t win the MAC Tournament.

With Ohio looking to play spoiler, tensions between the teams boiled over into the wild postgame celebration.

With the historic regular season now complete, Miami Athletic Director David Sayler, who’s been vocally supporting his team against Bruce Pearl to get into the NCAA Tournament, presented coach Travis Steele with a 31-0 Redhawks jersey.

Despite Miami Ohio’s weaker strength of schedule, a 31-0 record for a MAC program is historic and will likely never be seen again.

Miami’s best path to the NCAA Tournament now runs through the MAC Tournament, with an at-large bid looking increasingly risky. That road likely leads to a clash with Akron.

Miami still controls its own destiny, but the uphill battle that it’s climbed for every single game continues on.
