Division II Bowie State made headlines in the preseason on Thursday. The Bulldogs pulled off an upset, defeating a Division I team that’s made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.
They defeated D1 Hampton of the Coastal Athletic Association. The Bulldogs’ win over the Pirates erupted on social media, while multiple MLB postseason games and an NFL game also took place.
“Bowie State, who was picked second-to-last in the CIAA, travels down to Hampton and upsets the Pirates in Ivan Thomas’ DI head coaching debut,” Mid-Major Madness posted.

It’s only an exhibition but it’s still the epitome of brutality. pic.twitter.com/3DQQwoTuqa

I love my Bowie State Bulldogs.
A town that holds a special spot in my heart. Interned for the Baysox in college, met some amazing people.
Happy for @thevoiceofevan too.
