The Auburn Tigers will make a change at quarterback. After Payton Thorne began the year under center, head coach Hugh Freeze will roll with another option.
Hank Brown, a redshirt freshman quarterback for the Tigers, will start against the New Mexico Lobos this Saturday. The news on Auburn’s quarterback change emerged on Friday morning.
“Redshirt freshman Hank Brown is slated to start at QB for Auburn against New Mexico on Saturday,” On3’s Justin Hokanson posted on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. “For now, Brown replaces starter and team captain Payton Thorne in the starting lineup.”

The Tigers struggled last week against the California Golden Bears. Cal scored a rare victory over an SEC opponent on their turf, defeating Auburn in a game the Bears had for a majority. Freeze feels the Tigers can get a jolt from changing the most important position, one could argue, so we’ll see what Brown has to offer.
The Tigers hope to get back into the win column this weekend. A win would improve them to 2-1 after their opening weekend victory, which provided a sense of confidence that the Cal loss quickly diminished.
