When Texas Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered an oblique injury against the UTSA Roadrunners, the fanbase slightly panicked.
While famed freshman backup quarterback Arch Manning had plenty of hype surrounding him due to his famous family and outstanding high school performances, some were concerned about how he would be able to perform once he was in real-life in-game action.
Manning replaced Ewers in the first half against UTSA, then was the starter in the team’s victories over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and Mississippi State Bulldogs.
While Ewers is expected to return for the Red River Rivalry against the Oklahoma Sooners on October 12, Fox’s Joel Klatt said that Manning’s performance in Ewers’ absence is going to lead to great things for the Longhorns in the future.
“Ewers is their starter, and he’s going to be their starter, and they want him back, and he’s their leader. But Arch has solidified them as a bona fide national championship contender because now, it doesn’t matter if their quarterback stays healthy. They’re still a premier team in the country with him at quarterback,” Klatt said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd via On3.
This season, Manning has completed 55-of-78 passes for 900 yards and has nine touchdown passes to two interceptions. He also has three rushing touchdowns.
It’s easy to see where Klatt is coming from. It seems like Texas is finally back.
