A bombshell report dropped Monday afternoon that Texas Tech transfer QB Brendan Sorsby placed thousands of bets, including on teams he was on.
Sources: Texas Tech transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby is checking into a residential treatment program for a gambling addiction. He’s under NCAA investigation in the wake of the discovery of Sorsby making thousands of bets via a gambling app. https://t.co/O7gNSqDaKE

According to ESPN sources, Sorsby bet on Indiana football while redshirting for IU as a true freshman in 2022, a season in which he played in a single game as a reserve. The bets in 2022, per sources, were on Indiana to win and none came in a game in which Sorsby appeared.

Sorsby, who signed a $5M+ NIL deal with Texas Tech to be their QB in 2026, checked himself into rehab for a gambling addiction. The NCAA refused to comment, but the bets placed on his own team at Indiana do not bode well for his chances of eligibility next season.
According to NCAA rules, updated in 2023, students who gamble on their own games or on sports at their own school face permanent loss of collegiate eligibility in all sports.
Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions at Cincinnati last season and is considered a day 2 prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft.
NEW: Brendan Sorsby attended Cincinnati Reds games on repeated occasions and placed live wagers on balls and strikes, @PeteNakos reports.
The bets ranged anywhere from $2.50 to less than $1 per pitch. https://t.co/IvnmNlbncx https://t.co/nLYokP0tvz pic.twitter.com/t80K3pPMUG

Just left the casino and placed a bet for Brendan Sorsby to win the Heisman. I saw him in there making the same bet. #FreeSorsby

It’s possible that Sorsby’s 2026 season is over before it even began.
