Internet Reacts To Texas Tech QB Under NCAA Investigation For Gambling

A bombshell report dropped Monday afternoon that Texas Tech transfer QB Brendan Sorsby placed thousands of bets, including on teams he was on.

Sorsby, who signed a $5M+ NIL deal with Texas Tech to be their QB in 2026, checked himself into rehab for a gambling addiction. The NCAA refused to comment, but the bets placed on his own team at Indiana do not bode well for his chances of eligibility next season.

According to NCAA rules, updated in 2023, students who gamble on their own games or on sports at their own school face permanent loss of collegiate eligibility in all sports.

Sorsby threw for 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions at Cincinnati last season and is considered a day 2 prospect in the 2027 NFL Draft.

The news shocked the sports world. With the NFL Draft in the rearview mirror, all attention is focused on Sorsby and what’s next in his journey. The internet had a lot to say:

It’s possible that Sorsby’s 2026 season is over before it even began.
