The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced its support for a 24-team playoff, which will see the season end by the second week of January.
Conference title games will be discontinued in the new format.

This news comes on the heels of the March Madness expansion, which will increase the field from 68 to 76. Both expansions will likely not help smaller schools, but the power schools that want to earn more money for their programs.
