Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels took a horrible loss on the chin on Saturday. UNC lost 70-50 to James Madison in a dispiriting showing. Things got so bad that rumors emerged after the game that the legendary head coach, who won a National Championship in 2005, was retiring.

However, shortly after those rumors emerged, the legendary Brown patted the fires down.

ESPN.com’s Chris Low reported on Saturday night that Mack has no intentions of retiring from his post in Chapel Hill.

“Mack Brown told ESPN on Saturday he’s not resigning and ‘will be back to work’ Sunday,” Low wrote on X, the website formerly known as Twitter.

“He said it was an emotional locker room and told the team he blamed himself and would step away if he couldn’t get things straightened out,” Low added.

Brown holds an overall record of 285-150-1 over his illustrious career. He won six Big 12 division championships, two Big 12 titles, and the National Championship in the historic 2005 season. It doesn’t sound like Brown will hang it up, but he’s nothing if not accountable.
