Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs got back in the win column last Saturday, coming away with a 31-13 win over the Auburn Tigers at Sanford Stadium one week after they suffered their first SEC regular-season loss since 2020.
Georgia will try to make it two wins in a row this Saturday when it welcomes the Mississippi State Bulldogs to Athens.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Mississippi State first-year head coach Jeff Lebby had nothing but positive things to say about Smart.
“As good as there’s ever been. As he’s gotten to Georgia, and now you look at what he’s done over his tenure, it really is second to none. The amount of success he’s had, the years that he’s put back-to-back-to-back, it really is the standard right now in college football,” Lebby said during his weekly press conference.
Lebby, who spent two years as Ole Miss’ offensive coordinator and another two as Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator before being named Mississippi State’s head coach, praised the sustained development that has become a byproduct of Smart’s recruiting.
“He’s had a ton of success. To me, he’s done it in a way that has been built to sustain developing high school kids, signing great high school football players from the south and mixing in different pieces positionally. But he’s got a blueprint that is proven and it’s worked,” the 40-year-old head coach noted.
