The Texas Longhorns are 8-1 this season and have firmly cemented themselves as a contender in both the SEC and national landscape.
Texas has rarely been tested this season, winning by an average margin of 32 points in their eight victories.
The squad’s lone misstep came in October 19’s 30-15 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs. Texas followed that with a narrow 27-24 win over the plucky Vanderbilt Commodores but seemingly got fully back on track last weekend with a 49-17 win over the Florida Gators.
With three regular-season games remaining, head coach Steve Sarkisian still isn’t convinced his team is where it needs to be, telling the media this week that he thinks there is better football ahead for the Longhorns.
“I thought we had spurts throughout the first eight games where we looked really good, but I felt like we had better football in us that we could go play, and they played better [against Florida]… I know that we’ve got to get our outside zone running scheme going again. For whatever reason, we’re just not quite in sync. … So I’m always going to find areas and things that we can improve upon, and need to improve upon,” the 50-year-old head coach said via On3.
Despite not being where they need to be, Sark is still pleased with where they are to start November.
“But this is a great starting point for November, just us playing the style of football that I think we’re capable of playing,” he added.
Texas has another chance to get things where Sarkisian wants them to be on Saturday when they head to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks.
