Oregon An Oregon “O” adorns player helmets during practice with the Oregon Ducks Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 at the Hatfield-Dowlin Complex in Eugene, Ore.

The Oregon Ducks’ win over the Ohio State Buckeyes was the talk of the weekend. But during the game, things turned sour for one Ducks player who decided to commit a costly move.

Wide receiver Traeshon Holden spat in the face of Ohio State defensive back Davison Igbinosun during an Oregon drive poised to end in the end zone. Holden’s error in spitting in Igbinosun’s face led to an online uproar from former Ducks players, fans of both teams and college football personalities alike.

Holden apologized to Igbinosun, Ohio State, Oregon, and everyone else on Sunday with a message he penned.

“I want to sincerely apologize for my actions during our recent game,” Holden wrote. “My actions were not only disrespectful but also a betrayal of the values of sportsmanship, integrity, and respect that I strive to embody as a student-athlete.”

Holden continued, personally apologizing to his Oregon family and the Buckeyes.

“This incident has been a valuable lesson, and I am dedicated to becoming a better player, teammate, and a positive role model in our community,” he closed.

There’s been no word on if Oregon or head coach Dan Lanning plan to discipline Holden any further for the incident. Time will tell on that, but the best thing that could happen is the Ducks receiver growing from the incident.
