The Auburn Tigers got back in the win column on Saturday as they pulled off a 24-10 comeback victory against the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington.
It was Auburn’s first SEC win of the season, leaving the Mississippi State Bulldogs as the conference’s lone winless team in SEC play.
Auburn’s success, especially on the offensive side of the field, can be traced to senior running back Jarquez Hunter.
Hunter rushed for 278 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. The yardage is the fourth-most in a single game in Auburn history and marks a new 2024 single-game high for FBS football.
“To be honest, I got tired of losing. I told Coach, I said we’re going to find a way to win this game. It don’t matter how we do it or how it gets done, we’re going to find a way. I try to play my hardest for my teammates and coaches. I tried to take advantage of my opportunities that I got today, and I tried to wear ’em out,” Hunter said after the game via ESPN.
Hunter’s big day propelled him to the top of the SEC rushing leaderboard with 863 yards this season on an impressive 7.2 yards per carry.
The previous 2024 FBS single-game rushing high was set by Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty who rushed for 267 yards in the team’s season-opening win over the Georgia Southern Eagles.
Auburn will look for a second straight SEC win when they host the Vanderbilt Commodores on November 2.
