The Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs will play in the premier matchup of Week 1. The Bulldogs and Tigers will help kick off the 2024 college football season with one of the first games of the day on Saturday.

Everyone’s had something to say about the game. Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik joined that procession on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s top-flight matchup between his Tigers and the Dawgs.

Klubnik addressed the media and waxed poetic over Georgia, calling the top-ranked team in the nation a “great opponent.”

“Definitely a huge honor for us to be able to face such a great team like that in an opener,” Klubnik said of the Tigers’ Week 1 opponent.

Head coach Dabo Swinney said he wishes the two teams could play annually. It would be quite a show, given that Clemson and Georgia are among the Southeast’s most prominent and relevant college football programs. They’ve combined for four National Championships since the 2016 season and have each appeared in the College Football Playoff on several occasions over the years.

Led by Klubnik, the Tigers hope to make noise again in the ACC. Meanwhile, Carson Beck and the Bulldogs have sky-high expectations. They could win their third National Championship in four seasons if they go all the way. Beck has Heisman hopes as well. So it could be a big season in Athens. It all begins on Saturday in nearby Atlanta.
