The 2024 college football season is approaching fast. As such, teams are starting to name their starting quarterbacks for Week 1.

On Wednesday, the Troy Trojans announced that Will “Goose” Crowder will be the team’s starter to begin the 2024 campaign.

Josh Boutwell reported the news of Crowder’s status with the Trojans.

Crowder began his collegiate career with the West Virginia Mountaineers. He played with the Mountaineers as their quarterback during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. But, much like his first season at Troy last year, he had limited action.

Last season, he appeared in all 14 of Troy’s games but had just 13 pass attempts. He’s 17 of 21 in his career in college, with 179 passing yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Under Jon Sumrall, the Trojans were one of the best Group of 5 teams in the nation. Sumrall left Troy to coach at Tulane following Willie Fritz’s departure to Houston. Troy went 23-5 in 2022 and 2023, with appearances in the Cure Bowl and the Birmingham Bowl.

Troy hired first-year head coach Gerad Parker away from the Notre Dame coaching staff. Parker had served as offensive coordinator and tight ends coach under Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman. Expectations may remain high, but Goose Crowder and Troy will have a fascinating year in the Sun Belt.
