ESPN’s Booger McFarland has seen enough. The former LSU football standout and Super Bowl champion-turned-analyst has his choice for the 2024 Heisman Trophy: Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
McFarland spoke highly of Ward as he continues to excel under center for the Hurricanes.
“I think Cam Ward is going to win the Heisman Trophy,” McFarland proclaimed on Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff Rankings show via On3. He continued, “He’s been that good throughout this college football season.”
Ward has been terrific after he transferred to Miami this offseason. The former Washington State quarterback has transformed into a dynamic quarterback for one of the best teams in the country. During Tuesday night’s Rankings show, the College Football Playoff committee ranked Miami 4th in the first rankings. It’s the first year of the newly expanded College Football Playoff, so Miami isn’t hanging on the edge like they would be in the previous years.
This season, Ward leads the nation in passing touchdowns (29) and the ACC in passing yards (3,146), yards/attempt (9.8), and yards per game (349.6). Those numbers have helped make him a serious contender to win the Heisman this year. If he can finish out the month of November strong, then he might take home the coveted trophy. At this rate, he’s at least assuring himself of an invite to New York in December.
