The Michigan Wolverines fell to 5-5 on the season on Saturday when they took a 20-15 loss to the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers.
It was the latest frustrating loss for the defending national champions, who were expected to take a step back after losing multiple starters on both sides of the ball and multiple offensive and defensive coaches, including head coach Jim Harbaugh.
First-year head coach and former offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore replaced Harbaugh. After the loss to Indiana, Moore was asked if the expectations for Michigan heading into the season should have been lowered given the roster and coaching staff turnover.
“I think every year we’re going to expect the same standard. Our job is to go try to meet it. We’re Michigan, and we’re going to continue to fight. We’re going to continue to grind and get better,” Moore said.
The head coach has a point: Michigan is a ‘helmet school,’ and as such, there will always be heightened expectations for them, especially coming off of three straight College Football Playoff appearances. At the same time, most fans expected the Wolverines to drop off this season, albeit not to this steep of a degree.
Michigan will return to action on November 23 against the Northwestern Wildcats.
