The Miami Hurricanes are undefeated no more. Georgia Tech scored one of the season’s biggest upsets – again – after defeating the Hurricanes in Atlanta. The loss was Miami’s first of the season and put them in a less secure spot than they were in before that. The ACC is really tightening up now, as one-loss SMU is poised to make a run at the ACC Championship Game based on how they’ve played lately. Paul Finebaum doesn’t think the ACC, however, will survive this weekend as they were before.

Finebaum joined The Matt Barrie Show this weekend, as he is to do, and the duo discussed Miami’s loss to Georgia Tech. While Finebaum conceded that Miami was “fine,” he doesn’t believe the team is a “serious contender” for the College Football Playoff National Championship anymore.

Also, the ESPN personality thinks the ACC took a hit with the loss.

“They looked really good. Cam Ward, the whole thing. This is who they are,” Finebaum said. “Someone was going to get them. It’s no big deal because they’re still probably going to get to the playoffs. Where it hurts the most is for the ACC. They probably lost a berth yesterday. They’ll get the champion in, but I don’t think they’ll get in anyone else.”

Florida State’s complete unraveling likely hasn’t helped matters for the conference. It’s true that SMU has been a great story, but they don’t quite have the resume to submit a successful potential at-large bid. They’re in “win and you’re in,” and so might Miami, which will likely hinder the ACC in their attempt to get multiple CFP teams in.
