Oregon Ducks quarterback Dante Moore is a big fan of the new helmet communication installed in college football this year.
After years and years without it, college football will have radio communication through the helmet this season. While that’s probably a bit ironic considering what happened to Michigan last season, the changes will sweep through college football this year to provide ‘innovative’ technology to the sport.
The new radio communications are already proving effective. Moore, who will back up Dillon Gabriel this year for the Ducks, spoke highly about the technology advancements this week.
“It feels like you’re in a movie,” Moore said via On3. “Of course, you can look at the signals still, but just hearing the coach-to-player communication and then just hearing what Coach [Will] Stein is thinking before he calls a play — it helps us out with protections. It helps us out with checking plays.”
Moore summed it up by saying that, growing up, you’d see NFL players talking through their helmets, and now college football players get to do the very same thing. It’s a dream come true for many and probably a relief for others.
The Ducks have high expectations this year in the new Big Ten Conference. Moore and Oregon will begin the 2024 college football season against Idaho on August 31.
