The Oklahoma State Cowboys will present a unique offering as part of the university’s NIL collective. This season, Cowboys football players will wear QR codes on the back of their helmets to promote the collective.

The QR codes will send Oklahoma State fans and others to a page where the collective accepts donations.

NBC Sports and The Atheltic’s Nicole Auerbach posted about the exciting news on Tuesday afternoon.

NIL has dramatically changed college sports over the past few years. While hurdles to climb and adjustments are still needed, student-athletes’ receiving a piece of the pie is long overdue.

Oklahoma State probably won’t be the last team to use QR codes in this way. QR codes have become a popular means for companies to direct customers and consumers, so don’t be surprised if more collectives decide that this is the way to go.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys figure to be one of the top teams in the Big 12 this season. They boast Ollie Gordon at the top of their terrific offense, so we’ll see how things go in Stillwater this season.

Oklahoma State opens the 2024 college football season against South Dakota State on August 31.
