Joel Klatt knows who he’d vote for right now for the Heisman Trophy, and it’s Colorado superstar Travis Hunter.
The gifted Hunter, a two-way player at wide receiver and defensive back, is one of the most scintillating players in the entire sport. Hunter has wowed Buffaloes fans and other observers with his dynamo play on both sides of the ball. He’s especially looked awesome at wide receiver and, all things considered, appears like a humble kid who has his head on his shoulders.
On Wednesday, Klatt joined The Herd on FS1 and discussed this week’s storylines in college football with Colin Cowherd. Among them were the Buffs, who got themselves tangled in the web this week ahead of their rivalry matchup with Colorado State. While discussing their eventful week, Klatt focused on the team, and raved about Hunter. He called him “fabulous,” while Cowherd anointed him as “the best player in college football.”
Then, Klatt offered up Hunter as the choice for the coveted award.
“If you were voting for the Heisman Trophy, you’d probably have to vote for him,” Klatt argued.
In 2020, Heisman voters awarded Alabama star DeVonta Smith the trophy. His win as a wide receiver was the first for the award since Desmond Howard in 1991. Since Howard returned punts as well, Smith was the first to win the award truly as a wide receiver since the great Tim Brown did for Notre Dame in 1987.
Hunter would have to catch some kind of buzz, especially with how his Colorado team is perceived. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a possibility.
