Ryan Day Aug 15, 2024; Columbus, Ohio, USA; Ohio State University football team coach Ryan Day is all smiles after naming Will Howard as the starting quarterback. Day met with the media Aug. 15, 2024 in the team meeting room.

No one in college football might be under more pressure to succeed this year than Ryan Day. The Ohio State head coach has led the Buckeyes to great success over the past five seasons. However, criticism has only ramped up after three consecutive defeats to Michigan and multiple College Football Playoff blunders and misses.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum is one of many who have criticized the Buckeyes head coach for his lack of success in those two areas. On Get Up this week, Finebaum delivered a brutal assessment of the situation in Columbus. The longtime SEC personality even suggested that Ohio State cut their losses with Day if Ohio State can’t achieve what they will set out to this season.

“I don’t think he has to win the national championship, but here’s what he doesn’t need to do,” he said via On3. “If he loses to Michigan, which would be four in a row, and somehow gets bounced out of the playoffs, perhaps before the final game, I think the decision could be to get rid of him.”

Day’s consecutive losses to Michigan have been his biggest blemish after Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer had little issue putting the Wolverines away annually. While it might seem crazy, that game means so much. So this November will be imperative for the Buckeyes and Day to get one back on Michigan.
