The Washington Huskies had one of their best seasons in school history in 2023.
Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and wide receiver Rome Odunze formed an electric duo that took the Huskies to the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship, where they lost to the Michigan Wolverines.
A lot has changed for Washington in the past six months. Former head coach Kalen DeBoer left Washington to take the Alabama Crimson Tide job and was replaced by former Arizona Wildcats head coach Jedd Fisch. Penix and Odunze have both left for the NFL, and the team saw plenty of roster turnover across the board.
Fisch and the Huskies have seemingly found their replacement for Penix, though, as Mississippi State Bulldogs quarterback Will Rogers transferred to Washington after the regular season and stuck around through the coaching transition.
According to a report from Jordan Schultz on Monday, Rogers will be the starter for Washington when they open the season against the Weber State Wildcats on Saturday.
Some college football news: @UW_Football is naming Will Rogers as their starting QB, per sources.
I’m also told “don’t be surprised” if true freshman QB and blue-chipper Demond Williams Jr plays this season as well. pic.twitter.com/E1AcPUgSet

In his four years with Mississippi State, Rogers set the school’s career records for passing yards (12,315) and passing touchdowns (94).
Schultz also notes that four-star true freshman quarterback Demond Williams Jr may see playing time during the season, as well.
