A petty rivalry over uniforms has emerged in the state of Kentucky. Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky’s matchup this weekend may have gotten more interesting. Drama is unfolding over the use of white uniforms.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers had planned a ‘White Out’ for their game this weekend against EKU. However, according to the Hilltoppers, EKU informed them they planned to wear their white uniforms this weekend.

Because of that choice, WKU has to make a change. It’s safe to say they aren’t thrilled about that in Bowling Green.

“We announced our football game themes and promotions for the 2024 season on July 10 with Saturday’s home opener theme a ‘white out.’ Every season, we wear white helmets, uniforms, and patns for our annual White Out game. However, EKU informed us on Tuesday of this week that they would be exercising their right as the visiting team to wear white jerseys, thus forcing us to wear red jerseys on Saturday,” the program said. “Per NCAA results, both teams must agree to a uniform switch. We were hoping EKU woul agree to allow us to wear white on Saturday, as many other opponetns have in past years.”

WKU still encouraged fans to wear white on Saturday anyway. This game might not have had your attention before, but now? Saturday could be a very fun day in the state of Kentucky if you like petty rivalries.
