The Nebraska Cornhuskers smoked the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday night. The vibes were in the Huskers’ hands from bell to bell as they took their rivals to the cleaners. Freshman Dylan Raiola looked sharp under center, and the defense made life miserable for Shedeur Sanders and the Buffs. Head coach Deion Sanders might feel the pressure after that performance, but he admitted a huge problem on the team after the game.
“The way we started is just not indicative of who we are,” Sanders said postgame via ESPN. The Buffaloes coach later discussed how the offensive line persisted as an issue Saturday night in Lincoln.
“Protections were a problem, You know, I’m trying to be polite and say it, because you know I can say the same thing you’re thinking, but if I say it, you’d say I’m throwing my guys up under the bus. I’m not doing that whatsoever,” Sanders said. “Protections were a problem. We gotta figure out a way to prevent that and do a better job with that.”
Sanders is both brutally honest and correct in his observations. The offensive line’s issues have plagued Colorado in each of the last two seasons. Correcting that will go a long way, but at some point, you wonder if it will remain a nagging issue anyway. Sanders and the Buffaloes will have to right the ship quickly with Big 12 play approaching.
