The Texas Longhorns picked up perhaps the biggest win of any team this season when they went into Ann Arbor and came away with a 31-12 win over the Michigan Wolverines.
Texas dominated Michigan on both sides of the ball and was rewarded with its highest AP Poll ranking since 2009 when the Horns were ranked No. 2 in this week’s poll.
While Texas is riding high right now, head coach Steve Sarkisian made it clear on Monday that they have to put the Michigan win behind them and look ahead to Saturday’s game against the UTSA Roadrunners, citing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s season-opening win over the Texas A&M Aggies and stunning upset loss to the Northern Illinois Huskies in Week 2.
“Human nature is human nature. So what did I do this morning? I walked them through the Notre Dame scenario of going into College Station a week ago and winning that game and being anointed a top-five team and in the College Football Playoff, then a week later losing to Northern Illinois,” Sarkisian said Monday, via ESPN.
The 50-year-old head coach explained the point of his message to the team, saying, “We’re capable of anything. We’ve got a really good team. But we’re entitled to nothing. We’re going to earn everything. And we’re going to have to earn the victory here Saturday night.”
While Sarkisian is likely just trying to keep his team motivated for a game they should win fairly easily, anything can happen in college football.
