The USC Trojans are 2-0 on the young season this year. The 2024 college football season has played kindly to Lincoln Riley and the Trojans, who begin their first year in the Big Ten Conference this season.
The team has played considerably well. While expectations aren’t high in Los Angeles this year, the Trojans want to make an impact anyway. They defeated LSU in Las Vegas in Week 1 and followed that up with a 48-0 win over Utah State.
Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt revealed he’s been impressed with how USC has played so far.
“I had this sneaky suspicion they were going to turn it around,” Klatt said. “For me, it wasn’t about their quarterback. … It’s all stemming from their defense. But to be fair, most people also had questions about Miller Moss.”
Klatt said his familiarity may have made him more bullish on him since he called the Holiday Bowl last year. “Man, he looks like a guy that can go out there and operate what is a very potent system very well.”
“I was wondering about the defense,” Klatt added. “Last year’s defense was awful.” Klatt ran down their woes last season, and that bad went everywhere. “There was no specificity to how bad they were,” he said.
Klatt questioned whether the defense could just be average. So far, they’ve played well against LSU and Utah State, and after last season, their output far outweighs how they performed in 2023.
If USC can maintain a stout defense, then the Trojans could expect even more success than expected.
