This week’s Associated Press Top 25 went through a major shakeup, including one at the very top.

The Texas Longhorns are the nation’s newest No. 1 team. After a scintillating 3-0 start with a win at Michigan, the Longhorns are back atop the AP Top 25. It’s been a long time coming, but the Longhorns are back among college football’s elite. Steve Sarkisian has put together his best effort yet, and while Quinn Ewers’ injury looms, they have Arch Manning in their back pocket. Don’t expect to taper off.

Texas’ status at the top of the polls and a few other shakeups were noted online on Sunday afternoon amid a busy day of football.

Elsewhere, the Illinois Fighting Illini joined the ranks of the Top 25, sitting at 24th this week. Illinois will play Nebraska in a big game on Friday night as part of Fox’s college football coverage. It could be a fun one between two emerging Big Ten teams.

There was plenty else to dissect, but several in the college football world had much to say about the AP Poll shakeup.
