The Colorado Buffaloes scored a thrilling victory in overtime on Saturday night. Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders connected on a Hail Mary pass at the end of regulation. Then, superstar Travis Hunter forced a fumble on the final play in overtime that led to a Buffaloes victory.
The win was much-needed as the Buffs hadn’t won a conference game in multiple seasons. With optimism around the CU program waning, Saturday night’s win was euphoric. The fans went into a frenzy after the game. Students rushed the field after the huge win and celebrated. They also tore down the goalposts and are probably fortunate the game ended on a fumble. Had it not, referees likely would have penalized Colorado because fans entered the playing field.
While head coach Deion Sanders was all smiles after the win, he apologized on behalf of the program for the students’ actions.
“I want to apologize to the opposition,” Sanders said of their field-storming. He apologized to Baylor head coach Dave Aranda for not shaking his hand.
Sanders added, “I don’t think they got the word to him, because that’s not professional I wanted to shake his hand and acknowledge…
“I don’t like what transpired at the end of the game, but I love what transpired at the end of the game. We have a fanbase that’s phenomenal. We have some young kids on this campus that lives and breathes CU football and I’m thankful,” Sanders said. “They give us so much love and respect and honor.”
Even through his apology, Sanders made sure to boast and put over the exuberant Colorado fanbase. A pro move.
