Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Nico Iamaleava has been impressive this year. The touted freshman had high expectations going into the year in Knoxville, and four weeks into the season, he hasn’t missed yet. Iamaleava has led Tennessee to a perfect 4-0 record through the first leg of the 2024 college football season.
That included another strong showing on Saturday in the Vols’ SEC opener. Tennessee traveled to Norman to take on SEC newcomer Oklahoma. Iamaleava led the Vols to victory, and the conference recognized him again for his efforts.
The SEC announced on Monday that this week’s Freshman of the Week is once again Iamaleava.

But the big news on Iamaleava was put into a release the team issued on Monday in conjunction with this announcement. The talented Iamaleava has already left his mark on the Tennessee program. This is his third SEC Freshman of the Week award, which ties him for the most in a single season by any Vols player.
“Additionally, Iamaleava’s three SEC Freshman of the Week awards this season ties the school record set by Tyler Bray — who won it three times in a four-week span during the 2010 campaign,” the program wrote.
Iamaleava went 13-for-21 for 193 yards against the Sooners and threw a touchdown pass to Dont’e Thornton Jr.
With the way he’s performed, it won’t be surprising if Nico smashes through that record this season. The Volunteers will continue their crusade next week against Arkansas.
