Conference realignment is back again. This week, both the Mountain West and the Pac-12 have become more active in their expansion pursuits. On Saturday, it was revealed that the Mountain West invited yet another team.

ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel reports that the conference formally invited Texas State. The Bobcats are currently in the Sun Belt.

“Texas State officials have received a verbal offer to join the Mountain West,” Thamel wrote on X. “A decision is expected in the upcoming days as the talks continue,” he added. Thamel also noted the Pac-12 has interest in them too but that hasn’t materialized yet into a tangible offer.

As Thamel explained, the Mountain West is pushing to add more teams to gain more footing. They have six teams at the moment due to upcoming departures of several programs.

“Texas State would give them seven. They need eight full-time members with the announcement of the upcoming departures of Fresno State, Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State, and Utah State,” Thamel wrote.

The departing Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Utah State are all poised to join the Pac-12.

This situation continues to get more webs and become even more chaotic by the day.
