There’s a new Heisman Trophy frontrunner, and it’s Travis Hunter, says one ESPN analyst.
The dynamic Hunter, a two-way superstar for the Colorado Buffaloes, has impressed practically every week he’s played in Boulder. He’s been outstanding this season and keeps finding a way to make big plays. He did against Baylor, and then last Saturday, made an incredible interception to help put UCF away.
Because of his performances, people are taking notice. ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is one of them.
“I want to be on the record saying this. I think that Travis Hunter should be the leading candidate for the Heisman Trophy, I really do,” Smith said on First Take Monday morning via On3.
Smith went on to praise Hunter’s two-way ability and playmaking skills. He gushed over his ‘special’ talent while he made his case.
“On both sides of the ball, this brother is special,” Smith said. “He’s a playmaker on both sides of the ball, a difference maker on both sides of the ball.”
Smith also stumped for head coach and NFL great Deion Sanders to win Coach of the Year. He closed his statement by once again anointing Hunter as the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner.
Certainly, he’s gotten a lot of run for it after his continued great performances. It will all be about how he finishes, but as of now, it’s hard to argue against the Colorado superstar.
