Colorado is off to a hot start to the season again, but how realistic is it for them to continue that success? Paul Finebaum tried his best to answer that question.
The Buffaloes, 4-1 on the season, have arguably exceeded expectations this year. A much-improved defense combined with All-American caliber play from Travis Hunter has led to their furious start. Hunter is atop many pundits’ Heisman Trophy leaderboards.
But how will they fare against the rest of the Big 12? Could they make the College Football Playoff? Can we even entertain that thought?
“The Big 12 is topsy-turvy right now,” Finebaum explained on Tuesday morning on ESPN’s First Take. “And there are a lot of wins on that schedule that I didn’t think were possible a few weeks ago.”
Colorado hosts Kansas State, the 20th-ranked team in the country and an offseason favorite to win the conference, this weekend. Then they play three more games before their next ranked opponent, Utah, who comes to Boulder, giving CU some favor there. They finish the season against Kansas and Oklahoma State, who have thus far not lived up to boastful expectations this year.
“So I think the talk of them getting to the championship game of the Big 12 is realistic, and should they do that?” Finebaum posited. “If they win, they’re in the playoffs. I know that sounds like a pipe dream a couple weeks ago.”
It’s been quite a turnaround in Boulder for the Buffaloes, to say the least.
