Don’t expect to see Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce back on the sidelines in college football for some time. If it does not work out in Vegas, Pierce will surely stay in the pros after the NCAA punished the former Arizona State staffer on Thursday.
The NCAA announced a whopping eight-year show cause for the former Super Bowl champion linebacker-turned-coach. Pierce was a member of the Sun Devils’ staff led by former coach Herm Edwards that had NCAA sanctions levied on them several years ago.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel broke the news of the punishment.
“Former Arizona State football associate head coach Antonio Pierce gets significant NCAA ruling: An eight-year show-cause order for Pierce,” Thamel wrote. He added that, should Pierce actually get back into college football, he’d be subject to a one-year suspension.

Pierce has bigger issues to worry about in the NFL with the Raiders, but this was certainly major news on Thursday in the college sports world.
