The Purdue Boilermakers announced Saturday that senior cornerback Markevious Brown will step away from the team and will not play for the team again this season.

No reason was given for Brown’s decision, with the school calling it a ‘personal matter’ and saying they wouldn’t have any further comments.

“It is necessary for Markevious Brown to step away from the team at this time. As of today, it is our expectation that he will rejoin the program for the 2025 season. This is a personal matter, and we will have no additional comments,” the school said via ESPN.

As noted, Purdue is open to Brown returning to the team for the 2025 season.

After spending his first two collegiate seasons with Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels, Brown transferred to Purdue for the 2023 season and started 11 games at cornerback in 2023 and four games in 2024. He recorded 45 tackles in 2023 and forced a pair of fumbles to lead the team.

So far in 2024, the senior corner has recorded nine tackles and three pass deflections.

Purdue, which is 1-3 this season and 0-1 in Big Ten play, will look to get back on track on Saturday when it faces the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium. Botros Alisandro, listed as Brown’s backup on Purdue’s depth chart this week, will likely get the start in Brown’s place this week and in the future.
