The Toledo Rockets have had a great start to their season, going 4-1 in their first five games before their bye week.
Toledo looks poised to compete in the MAC throughout the second half of their season, with their eyes on a third straight MAC Championship Game appearance.
Head coach Jason Candle has done a great job keeping the Rockets competitive since taking over for Matt Campbell, who left for the Iowa State Cyclones head coaching job after the 2015 season.
In his eight-and-a-half seasons at the helm, Candle has gone 69-36 and 44-19 in MAC play. He’s also taken Toledo to seven of the program’s all-time 21 bowl games.
Toledo knows the importance of consistency at the head coach position, and with the seemingly never-ending wheel of conference realignment continuing to spin, continuity is key.
As such, Toledo and Candle have reportedly agreed to terms on a contract extension through the 2028 season. ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported the news on Monday morning.
Sources: Toledo has extended coach Jason Candle through the 2028 season. He’s won two MAC titles at the school and won 11 games last year.

In addition to the two MAC championships, Candle has been named the conference’s Coach of the Year twice, making him the ninth head coach in conference history to win the award more than once.
Candle is also on pace to become Toledo’s all-time wins leader, as he’s currently just four behind Gary Pinkel’s mark of 73 victories, which he amassed from 1991-2000.
