Cam Rising won’t play for the rest of the 2024 college football season. The dispiriting news on the Utah Utes quarterback came out on Monday, and then a significant update followed.
The Utes will look to consider Rising for an absurd eighth year in college at quarterback. Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham intimated that on Monday as well.
“There will be consideration for an8th year, we’ll have to consider it,” Whittingham said via reporter Steve Bartle. Whittingham noted that they have yet to consult the quarterback on the matter.

Rising has played at Utah for several years thanks to COVID-year rules and other eligibility hurdles he’s climbed over. Injuries have had a lot to do with it as well.
While the reaction to it was about down the middle online, there’s no doubt that the payoff for this should hopefully be good health for Cam Rising. He is a football player, but a person as well, who’s been through a lot. More power to him if he wants to play more college football, but he’s certainly earned a good quality of life away from the game as well.
