On Monday, the college football world learned that Cam Rising will miss the rest of the 2024 college football season. That terrible news on Monday was then followed by a very significant update out of Salt Lake City.

Utah plans to consider Rising for an eighth year at the university. Utes head coach Kyle Whittingham said as much Monday as well, but making sure to note they haven’t consulted Rising yet.

“There will be consideration for an8th year, we’ll have to consider it,” Whittingham said via reporter Steve Bartle.

Rising has played at Utah for several years thanks to COVID-year rules and other eligibility hurdles he’s climbed over. Injuries have had a lot to do with it as well. He missed all of last season, and his last full season was in 2022.

In his long career, Rising has thrown for 6,127 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.

Several joined to react to the news, and reaction was about split down the middle.

It continued, with some voicing their frustrations over the situation. “I love me some Cam Rising but this is madness,” Graham Coffey said.

We’ll see if Rising returns to Utah. But perhaps the onlookers had a point about eligibility and how far it’s been extended since the COVID year.
