The top-ranked Texas Longhorns improved to 6-0 on Saturday when they rolled to a 34-3 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the 120th iteration of the Red River Rivalry.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers returned from an oblique injury to go 20-for-29 for 199 passing yards and one touchdown pass to go with one interception. Ewers missed nearly a month with the injury as freshman backup Arch Manning started in his stead.
The junior quarterback’s return for what may result in his final Red River Rivalry, as Ewers is projected to be a first-round pick in the NFL Draft and Manning has proven ready to be the full-time starter, led to a period of retrospection after the game. At his postgame press conference, Ewers discussed Saturday’s game and the Red River Rivalry as a whole.
“It’s good to come here and be able to play in this game in general, and just the opportunity that we are all given to come up here and play against them at a neutral site. It’s been fun the past three years and I’m super glad to be 2-1, over five hundred, in the game for sure. The overall experience and atmosphere is unbeatable. So it’s not hard to get up for this game and we really enjoy the moment,” the 21-year-old quarterback said.
Ewers and the Longhorns will look to improve to 7-0 when they host the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night in Austin.
