A noteworthy name entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Tuesday. Boston College quarterback Thomas Castellanos, who gained notoriety this year after BC’s upset win over Florida State, is now in the portal.
The Eagles quarterback got benched last week against Syracuse. BC head coach Bill O’Brien said Castellanos didn’t travel with the team for this weekend’s matchup against ACC contender SMU.
It turns out that there was a larger plan at work, clearly.

“Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal,” On3’s Pete Nakos reported on Tuesday afternoon.
Castellanos began his collegiate career at Central Florida in 2022. After limited action, he transferred to Boston College before the 2023 season. Last year, he threw for 2,248 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. This season, he’s played much more efficiently. He has 1,366 yards, 18 touchdowns, and five interceptions to his name. But obviously still wasn’t enough to avoid being benched.
Castellanos stepped away after the benching and has decided to take another route. Best wishes to him in furthering the rest of his collegiate career. That is, after all, what the transfer portal was made for in the end. So we’ll see where the dice rolls for him.
