Notre Dame will be without a former All-American cornerback for the rest of the 2024 season. Benjamin Morrison injured his hip and will miss the remainder of the year, head coach Marcus Freeman announced.

The debilitating injury is a tough blow for both the Irish and Morrison, who many expected to be a potential first-round pick.

“Benjamin Morrison (hip) out for the season, per Marcus Freeman. Surgery required,” Pete Sampson wrote.

Morrison is one of the best cornerbacks in the country. In 2022, after tremendous success in his first year with the Irish, he was named a freshman all-American. The Notre Dame cornerback’s been labeled as one of the best players in Independent schools, and considering the stage he plays on, Morrison’s skill level transcends throughout the sport.

There’s a good reason many anticipated he’d be a potential first-rounder. But now that’s in doubt after this unfortunate injury. The Notre Dame star’s climb back will be watched, and many will likely root for his success.

If that’s it for him in college, Morrison leaves with 31 games played, 84 total tackles, 5 TFL, nine interceptions – six as a freshman – 18 passes defended, and one pick-six when he was a freshman. He led the nation in passes defended in 2023 with that ten.

The Irish will have a tough go now without the experienced and talented cornerback. It’s always “next man up,” so we’ll see what Freeman and the defense have cooked up. It’s been a windy season, starting with a huge win over Texas A&M before their dramatic fall against Northern Illinois of the MAC.

Notre Dame has remaining challenges against both Army and Navy, two unbeaten teams, among the rest of their scheduled games this season. Their next matchup is against a stingy Georgia Tech team on the road in Atlanta.
