Michigan intimated a potential plan on the way that earned no fans on Tuesday.
The successful athletic program, which just earned a National Championship in January in the all-important sport of football, appears to still be in demand of more money. Athletic director Warde Manuel addressed the situation and has a plan to try and solve the issues they have faced:
Advertising at Michigan Stadium.
“Warde Manuel: Michigan may consider advertising in Big House to raise revenue,” longtime Detroit reporter Angelique Chenglis wrote.

As many went on to argue, this happening to Michigan is crazy. They’re among the most recognizable universities and athletic programs in the entire country. The team had great success since 2021, including a National Championship victory in January over Washington. Yet, they appear committed to alienating their fans and otherwise with fundraising attempts that frankly feel unnecessary at a school like Michigan.
While programs like arch-rival Ohio State and Big Ten newcomer Oregon are spending money and succeeding in college football, Michigan’s decision-making appears questionable at best, especially considering that Michigan is lacking so much at quarterback this year. While the Jim Harbaugh situation made things challenging, their rivals and peers didn’t have such issues this year. It makes you wonder what would happen if more commitment came across the board.
The plan immediately felt brushback from fans and otherwise on Tuesday.
I understand it in a lot of cases but *Michigan* athletic administrators crying poor is wild https://t.co/TBYhXN2tbi

Attempts to devalue the thing they’ve been gouging us for would be met with less immediate scorn and outrage if we weren’t 100% certain they would just keep the money and continue to gouge us as much as they possibly can. https://t.co/UXJwJPOIkc

This stuff absolutely disgusts me. There really is no end to the greed with these administrators, is there? (๐งต https://t.co/iz78DhZMRr

Whatever plans Manuel and the Wolverines have, it doesn’t seem like advertising will be one that will win anybody over anytime soon.
