The Texas Longhorns are among the nation’s best college football teams. But amid that success, a problem could be developing at quarterback. While there’s no doubt that Quinn Ewers has had a successful run at quarterback, his struggles against Georgia highlighted a potential problem: What of Arch Manning?
Manning stepped in for the injured Ewers earlier this season. He looked sharp and kept Texas humming along. When Ewers became healthy enough to play again, he rightly took his spot back. But since the Georgia game, there’ve been questions.
ESPN’s Paul Finebaum openly suggested peril could be on the way for Texas. During his appearance on Get Up, Finebaum predicted that Manning could soon take over for Ewers if the struggles persist.
Finebaum said via On3, “I’m watching the quarterback situation because Quinn Ewers was not good last week against Georgia. Remember, Arch Manning is the No. 2. He’s the best backup quarterback in America. He could start almost anywhere else.
“So if Ewers struggles, I think he’ll get pulled,” Finebaum said. “Or he should get pulled, and we may see the beginning of the Arch Manning era.”
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian might be trying to avoid this scenario between Ewers and Manning, but given the way things are going, he may be forced to encounter it anyway.
