The Florida State Seminoles are having one of their worst campaigns in recent memory. Things got even worse on Sunday when the team lost an elite commit.

On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported that four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley of the 2025 recruiting class decommitted from FSU on Sunday.

“Four-star WR CJ WIley has decommitted from Florida State,” Fawcett wrote on X. “Is now the top uncommitted WR in ’25.”

Thus, putting it that way, there’s no denying the talent that FSU will lose out on here. Wiley is a significant blue-chip prospect in next year’s class. Now several elite programs will get a chance to persuade him to come to their school. Prior to his commitment, Wiley held offers notably from LSU and Georgia.

Florida State has not enjoyed much success in 2024, and that’s perhaps saying something. The Seminoles were undefeated just last season. Following their deflating loss in the Orange Bowl, FSU hasn’t appeared to be the same since. They spent most of the offseason bemoaning the College Football Playoff snub they encountered. They were justified in reacting, but whatever happened last year should have stayed there. A bad recipe and mix has led to dysfunction and poor performances his year. And now it’s also hitting the recruiting trail.
