Colorado has surprised the college football world this year. Expectations weren’t high in Boulder after a dismal first season under the legendary Deion Sanders. It seemed like he was destined to flame out, but the Buffaloes are fired up this year.

After their win over Cincinnati on Saturday, Colorado improved to 6-2 this season. That victory clinched bowl eligibility for the program for the first time since the COVID-shortened 2020 season and their first in a full year since back in 2016.

Sanders smiled after the game while he alerted the media. However, Sanders also warned everyone that bowl eligibility wasn’t their only goal.

“It’s cute. It really is. Because we really want that, but that’s not all we’re after,” he said via ESPN.com. “That’s one of the hurdles that we’re jumping over and going over.”

Sanders continued, saying, “That’s a tremendous hurdle that we’re happy, we’re excited, but that’s not the end goal for us. That’s the beginning, but we are thankful and appreciative that the hard work is going noticed.”

The Buffaloes are still in contention for a Big 12 Championship this season. While BYU and Iowa State lead the conference at this moment, the Buffs have just one loss this season. Kansas State does also, which could spell doom for CU since the Wildcats defeated them earlier this season. They’ll need some help, but Colorado is closer to their next target than they may appear.
